So, my faithful reader, Yours Truly has discovered a horrible error. Well, not really an error, more like an oversight, and one YT can’t take complete responsibility for.
He missed a beer.
How is this possible, given YT’s acuity in and among the various species of Portland beers? Bartenders. The dang bartenders gave YT and his faithful companion, Vinny ”The Nose” Pommard, an incomplete sampling. The tasting was on and excitement set in, leaving a regular Old Market Pub beer off of the tasting tray.
Black Magic Stout is the brew missing in action, and it is such a beautiful stout to be missing. In adjourning to the Old Market Pub one evening for a brief read and a beer YT barely made out a sign, at the end of thirty feet of taps, that said Black Magic Stout. Being of Irish persuasion, YT instinctively gravitates towards porters and stouts, so he ordered one. Fantastic.
It’s pushed with nitro, and sits in the pint glass looking black, heavy, and upside down (the bubbles). It actually looks a lot like Guinness, sitting so black with a rich, white head. This beer has a lot in common with that most popular beer in the world, Guinness. But readers don’t want to hear YT yammer on and on for pages, they want it short and sweet. Here it is.
Black Magic Stout fills the mouth with a rich, dry taste of malty coffee and nuts. The finish balances out the bitterness with a slight hint of berry. What you have left is a stout that reminds one of coffee, leather, and berries.
From Portland, Yours Truly
